Brazil has 26 states and one Federal District — 27 answers in total. This quiz shows a blank map of Brazil. You type the name of each state, and the map colors that state in place.
Three names share the same start: Pará, Paraná and Paraíba. Type with care — the map commits a name as soon as it is complete.
How to play
Type state names in any order. A correct name colors the state on the map at once.
You can start to type right away. You do not need to click the answer box first.
Accents are not required. "Sao Paulo" counts for São Paulo, and "Ceara" counts for Ceará.
"Brasilia" and "Federal District" both score the Distrito Federal.
A timer tracks your run. The quiz saves your best score and best time.
If you are stuck, use the give up button. The map then shows the states you missed.
What counts in this quiz
The 26 states and the Federal District.
What's not included — and why
Cities are not answers. Rio de Janeiro the state counts; typing it scores the state, not the city.
The five regions of Brazil, such as Nordeste, are not answers.
Good to know
Amazonas is the largest state. It is bigger than every country in Europe.
São Paulo has more than 44 million people — about one fifth of all Brazilians.
The Federal District was carved out for Brasília, the planned capital that opened in 1960.
Tocantins is the newest state. It split from Goiás in 1988.
