Finland Regions Quiz — Rules & What Counts
Finland has 19 regions, including the autonomous Åland Islands. This quiz shows a blank map of Finland. You type the name of each region, and the map colors that region in place.
How to play
Type names in any order. A correct name colors the region on the map at once.
You can start to type right away. You do not need to click the answer box first.
English and Finnish names both count. "North Ostrobothnia" and "Pohjois-Pohjanmaa" score the same region.
Finnish letters are not required. "Aland" counts for Åland, and "Paijat-Hame" counts for Päijät-Häme.
A timer tracks your run. The quiz saves your best score and best time.
If you are stuck, use the give up button. The map then shows the regions you missed.
What counts in this quiz
The 19 regions of Finland, from Åland to Lapland.
Older English forms count too. "Finland Proper" scores Southwest Finland.
What's not included — and why
Cities are not answers. Helsinki and Tampere do not score — Uusimaa and Pirkanmaa do.
Good to know
Lapland is the largest region. It covers almost one third of Finland.
Uusimaa, around Helsinki, has the most people.
Åland is autonomous and Swedish-speaking, and it has its own flag.
Southwest Finland is the historic core of the country. Its Finnish name, Varsinais-Suomi, means "Finland Proper".
