Mainland Portugal has 18 districts. The Azores and Madeira are autonomous regions in the Atlantic. This quiz asks for all 20 areas.
You type the name of each area, and the map colors that area in place.
How to play
- Type names in any order. A correct name colors the area on the map at once.
- You can start to type right away. You do not need to click the answer box first.
- Accents are not required. "Evora" counts for Évora, and "Setubal" counts for Setúbal.
- "Lisbon" and "Lisboa" score the same district.
- Type Bragança in full. Bare "Braga" scores the district of Braga.
- A timer tracks your run. The quiz saves your best score and best time.
- If you are stuck, use the give up button. The map then shows the areas you missed.
What counts in this quiz
- The 18 districts of the mainland, plus the Azores and Madeira.
What's not included — and why
- Historic provinces are not answers. The Algarve does not score — the district of Faro does.
Good to know
- The districts date from 1835. Each one carries the name of its capital city.
- Beja is the largest district by area. Lisbon has the most people.
- The Azores lie about 1,500 km west of the mainland, in the middle of the Atlantic.
- Madeira lies closer to Africa than to mainland Portugal.
