Romania Counties Quiz — Rules & What Counts
Romania has 41 counties plus the capital, Bucharest — 42 areas in total. Romanians call a county a județ. This quiz shows a blank map. You type the name of each area, and the map colors that area in place.
How to play
Type names in any order. A correct name colors the area on the map at once.
You can start to type right away. You do not need to click the answer box first.
Romanian letters are not required. "Iasi" counts for Iași, and "Timis" counts for Timiș.
"Bucharest" and "București" score the same area.
A timer tracks your run. The quiz saves your best score and best time.
If you are stuck, use the give up button. The map then shows the areas you missed.
What counts in this quiz
The 41 counties and Bucharest.
What's not included — and why
Historic regions are not answers. Transylvania, Moldavia and Wallachia group counties, but they do not score.
Cities that do not name a county are not answers. Timișoara does not score — Timiș does.
Good to know
Most counties carry the name of a river or of their capital city.
Ilfov surrounds Bucharest, but the capital is not part of it.
Tulcea holds the Danube Delta, where the river meets the Black Sea.
Constanța, on the coast, contains the oldest continuously inhabited city in Romania.
