The answer list is the same 797 animals the Daily Animal quiz accepts. An animal you know may not be in the list.

Animals A to Z Quiz — Rules & What Counts
Name one animal for each letter of the alphabet, from A to Z.
The quiz walks the letters in order. One correct animal clears the current letter and moves you to the next letter.
The answer list is the same list the Daily Animal quiz uses, with about 800 animals. The list stays hidden. Your memory supplies the names, and the quiz checks them.
How to play
Just start typing. The quiz checks your answer at every keystroke. There is no submit button.
A correct animal fills the current letter's tile, and the walk moves to the next letter.
Common names and scientific names both count. "Lion" and "Panthera leo" both answer L.
Spelling is forgiving. Capitals, accents and punctuation are ignored.
An animal that starts with a different letter does nothing. Your text stays in the input, so you can finish the name you started.
If no animal in the list starts with a letter, the quiz skips that letter. A skipped letter does not count against your score.
The timer starts at your first keystroke and counts up. Give Up ends the run and shows every accepted animal for each letter you missed. Progress saves automatically.
What counts in this quiz
The answer list is every animal the Daily Animal quiz accepts as a guess — about 800 animals.
Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and other invertebrates all count.
The letter comes from the animal's common name. "African elephant" answers A, and "Elephant seal" answers E.
Your score is the number of letters you clear.
What's not included — and why
Animals outside the Daily Animal list are not accepted. An animal you know can be missing. That is scope, not an error.
Breeds are not separate answers. A labrador is a dog.
Mythical animals do not count. A dragon is not in the list.
Good to know
This quiz shares its answer list with the Daily Animal quiz. Playing one trains you for the other.
Q is easier than it looks. The quokka, one of the internet's favourite animals, has the letter covered.
The hidden list holds more than 40 animals for some letters. The reveal at the end shows what you could have typed.
