Football's real money table. This quiz deals 25 face-down cards ranked #1 to #25 — the all-time highest-earning players once salaries, signing bonuses, and endorsements are added up and adjusted for inflation — and asks you to name them.
The podium is guessable. The middle is where runs die: the list rewards knowing who signed the quiet mega-contracts — the Saudi movers, the China-boom transfers, the endorsement machines — not just who won the Ballon d'Or.
Every card shows its earnings figure up front, so you're always guessing with a clue: who, exactly, banked roughly $330 million without ever being the best player on Earth?
How to play
Cards start hidden, showing only a rank and the earnings badge. Type a correct player's name and the card flips to reveal their photo and country.
Answers are free-form — you don't need to know anyone's exact rank. Naming any player in the top 25 solves their card wherever it sits.
Surnames are enough: "Rooney" works, and so do nicknames like "CR7", "Zlatan", and "KDB". Accents are optional throughout.
The count-up timer starts on your first keystroke; Give Up reveals everyone you missed, and progress autosaves along the way.
What counts in this quiz

Modern and recent players dominate: football wages exploded after the 1990s TV-money era, so even inflation adjustment can't lift most older legends into the top 25.
The figures are estimates. The very top of the list is well documented; mid-table amounts and exact order are best reconstructions, and the quiz says so up front.
What's not included — and why
Net worth doesn't count — this is money earned, not money kept, grown, or lost. A player's business empire after retirement isn't in the number.
Pure post-career income is out too: punditry salaries and club ownership stakes acquired after hanging up the boots aren't playing earnings.
Historic greats like Pelé, Maradona, and Cruyff earned fortunes for their eras, but even adjusted, pre-1990s football money doesn't reach this table.
Good to know
The top two have out-earned entire squads: the #1 and #2 cards together account for well over $4 billion — more than the rest of the podium combined.
David Beckham earned more in his four MLS seasons than in a decade at Manchester United — the poster case for brand beating trophies.
