Footballers A to Z Quiz — Rules & What Counts
Name one football player for each letter of the alphabet, from A to Z.
The quiz walks the letters in order. One correct player clears the current letter and moves you to the next letter.
The answer list is the 500 most famous footballers of all time. The list stays hidden. Your memory supplies the names, and the quiz checks them.
How to play
Just start typing. The quiz checks your answer at every keystroke. There is no submit button.
A correct player fills the current letter's tile, and the walk moves to the next letter.
The letter is the name the player is known by, usually the last name. Lionel Messi answers M, and Cristiano Ronaldo answers R.
One-name players answer their one name. Pelé answers P, Ronaldinho answers R, and Xavi answers X.
The last name alone counts. "Messi" and "Lionel Messi" both answer M.
Famous nicknames count. "CR7" solves Cristiano Ronaldo, and "Zlatan" solves Zlatan Ibrahimović.
Spelling is forgiving. Capitals, accents and punctuation are ignored, and frequent misspellings such as "Ibrahimovich" are accepted.
A player whose letter is different does nothing. Your text stays in the input, so you can finish the name you started.
The timer starts at your first keystroke and counts up. Give Up ends the run and shows every accepted player for each letter you missed. Progress saves automatically.
What counts in this quiz
The answer list is the 500 most famous footballers of all time.
Legends and current stars both count, from Pelé and Maradona to Mbappé and Yamal.
Goalkeepers and defenders count, not only strikers.
The most famous women's players count. Marta, Mia Hamm and Aitana Bonmatí are in the list.
Every letter from A to Z has players in the list.
Your score is the number of letters you clear. The highest score is 26.
What's not included — and why
Players outside the top 500 are not in the list. A player you know can be missing. That is scope, not an error.
Managers who were not famous players are not here.
First names alone do not count. "Lionel" does not solve Messi.
Good to know
Two Ronaldos live under R: Cristiano Ronaldo and the Brazilian Ronaldo. Either one clears the letter.
Q is the letter that ends most runs. Ricardo Quaresma is the rescue answer most players find.
X belongs to one club: Xavi, Xabi Alonso and Granit Xhaka carry the letter.
