The Medium tier moves to genuine two-step equations: "3x + 5 = 26" wants you to strip the 5, then the 3, and type 7. Twenty of them, one at a time, against a clock that only counts up.
Four shapes rotate through the sprint: ax + b = c, ax − b = c, a distributed bracket a(x + b) = c, and a division form x ÷ a + b = c. That's the core of early algebra in one drill — undo operations in the right order, twice per problem, at speed.

What's not included — and why
No x on both sides of the equals sign — that twist is the Hard tier's signature, so Medium stays a two-move solve.
No negative solutions — subtractions are constructed so results stay positive.
Good to know
The = sign was invented in 1557 by Welsh mathematician Robert Recorde, who chose two parallel lines "bicause noe 2 thynges can be moare equalle".
The balance-scale metaphor — whatever you do to one side, do to the other — predates symbolic algebra by centuries; ancient problem-solvers reasoned the same way in words.
Solving ax + b = c in reverse order of operations is why teachers call it "unwrapping" the x.
