Order Composers by Birth Year — From Monteverdi to Hans Zimmer
Each card in this quiz names a composer and one famous work. The board starts with one card already on it. The quiz then gives you one card at a time, and you put each card in the row from the oldest composer to the youngest.
A correct placement shows the birth year and keeps the card on the board. One wrong placement ends the run. You cannot move a card after you place it, so each choice is final.
The pool holds 43 composers and each run deals 20 of them, so two runs are never the same. The pool spans four centuries, from Monteverdi, born in 1567, to Hans Zimmer, born in 1957. Film composers are in the pool, so the modern end is more than one name.
The work on each card is the hint. You do not need to know when Vivaldi was born if you can place The Four Seasons before The Rite of Spring.
How to play
The row is sorted by birth year. The oldest composer is at one end and the youngest composer is at the other end.
One card starts on the board. Its birth year is shown.
The quiz gives you one card at a time. Put it in the gap where you think it belongs.
A correct placement shows the birth year of the composer. The card stays on the board and the quiz gives you the next card.
A wrong placement ends the run. The quiz then shows you the correct gap.
You cannot move a card after you place it.
Your score is the number of cards on the board at the end. The maximum score is 20.
A perfect run places all 20 cards with no mistake.
What counts in this quiz
The year the composer was born. Every year in the pool is an exact, documented fact — no estimates.
Two composers born in the same year count as equal. Bach and Handel are both 1685, Chopin and Schumann are both 1810, and Wagner and Verdi are both 1813. The board takes either order for such a pair.
Each card names one signature work, so a player who knows the music but not the name still has something to reason from.
What's not included — and why
The birth year is the only measure. When a composer wrote the work on the card does not matter.
Composers whose birth year is not documented are not in the pool.
The quiz does not rank the composers by fame or by importance. A card's position says only when its composer was born.
