Famous Filming Locations — Place 25 Movies on the Map
This quiz asks where a movie was shot. The map shows 25 empty circles. The tray holds 25 movies. You drag each movie onto the circle that marks the place where its camera crew worked.
The places are real and most of them are famous in their own right. Hobbiton in New Zealand, the Treasury at Petra, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the bamboo forest at Anji are all in the quiz.
The tokens show the title of each movie as text. No token uses a poster or a still, because movie artwork is under copyright and cannot be licensed for this site.
How to play
Drag a movie from the tray onto a circle on the map.
A correct drop locks the movie onto its circle and shows the place.
A wrong drop returns the movie to the tray. You can try it again.
You can zoom the map and move it while you play.
Your score is the number of movies you place correctly. The maximum score is 25.
What counts in this quiz
The place where the movie was really shot, not the place where its story is set.
The main location for each movie. Most large movies shoot in several countries, and the quiz uses the one the movie is known for.
25 movies in 25 different countries. Each circle is its own target, so no two movies are interchangeable.
What's not included — and why
A movie set in a place it never visited is not in the quiz. Casablanca was shot on a Hollywood back lot, so it cannot be a card here.
Animated movies are not in the quiz. A drawn or computer-made movie has no camera location.
Studio work is not counted. Many of these movies built interior sets at home and shot only their exteriors at the place on the map.
Good to know
The Hobbiton set at Matamata was rebuilt in permanent materials for The Hobbit. It is still open to visitors.
Maya Bay closed to tourists in 2018, partly because The Beach made it too popular. It reopened with limits in 2022.
Tom Cruise climbed the outside of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, for Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.
