Portugal counts cities by municipality, and the Lisbon suburbs are large municipalities. Six of the ten are in the Lisbon area, and the dots there sit close together.

How to play
Each city is a red dot on the map from the start. The dots show where the cities are, not which one is which.
A numbered list on the left shows the ranks 1 to 10. Type the city names in any order.
You can start to type right away. You do not need to click the answer box first.
A correct name turns the dot and its rank green and shows the name and the population.
Local names, old names and English names count. Accents are not required.
A timer tracks your run. The quiz saves your best score and best time.

Lisbon is the biggest city with about 545K people.
What's not included — and why
Amadora, Gondomar and Seixal fall just outside the top 10, each only a few thousand people below Oeiras.
Coimbra and Funchal are well-known cities but have fewer than 145,000 people each.
Good to know
Sintra, a suburb west of Lisbon, is the second-biggest municipality in Portugal.
Vila Nova de Gaia is across the river from Porto and is bigger than Porto itself. The port wine cellars are on the Gaia side.
Braga is the oldest city on the list. The Romans founded it as Bracara Augusta.
