Rules & what counts
Fruits and Vegetables A to Z: Rules & What Counts
Name one fruit or vegetable for each letter of the alphabet. The grid shows 25 letter tiles. The letter X is skipped, because no produce starts with it.
The answer list is hidden. It holds about 390 kinds of produce, from the apple to the zucchini, as a cook meets them at the greengrocer.
A correct answer clears the tile and shows the name you typed. A missed letter shows examples on the result screen.
How to play
Start typing anywhere; the answer bar catches it automatically.
The game accepts a fruit or a vegetable as soon as you spell it. You do not press Enter.
Only the current letter matters. Type any fruit or vegetable that starts with that letter.
Select Skip to move to the next letter. You can come back to a skipped letter later.
Select Give up to see the full accepted list of every letter you missed and to save your score.
What counts in this quiz
About 390 fruits and vegetables. Pulses, edible roots and the British and American names both count: aubergine under A and eggplant under E, courgette under C and zucchini under Z.
The plural counts where people use it: "grapes", "peas", "Brussels sprouts".
The maximum score is 25, one point per letter.
The leaderboard ranks the number of letters cleared, then the time.
What's not included, and why
Nuts, grains, herbs and spices are not in the list. A mushroom is not in the list: a fungus is not a plant.
Only the exact spelling counts, with the common misspellings added by hand. There is no fuzzy matching.
A variety counts only where it is a well-known produce name of its own: Victoria plum, Granny Smith is not in the list.
