Top 10 Most Populous Countries Quiz — Rules & What Counts
Name the ten countries with the most people. Together these ten hold well over half of everyone alive — around 4.6 billion of the world's roughly 8 billion people — so this is arguably the most consequential top 10 in geography.
The top two are easy; the trap is the middle order. Most players misplace at least two of positions four through eight, and the recent change at the very top catches out anyone running on old knowledge. A perfectly ordered run here is rarer than you'd think.
How to play
No location pins — the countries appear on the map only after you guess them. A numbered 1–10 rail tracks which ranks you're missing.
Type anywhere; no clicking required before you answer.
Matching is lenient with common names — "USA" or "America" for the United States, for example.
The timer counts up from zero; hit give up to reveal the rest and record the attempt.
What counts in this quiz
Exactly 10 sovereign countries, ranked by current estimated population.
India leads with about 1.43 billion, having overtaken China (about 1.41 billion) in 2023 — the first change at the top in centuries of recorded estimates.
Figures are recent approximations; small year-to-year shifts don't change who's on the list, though the middle order can shuffle.

Nigeria is the fastest-growing country in the top 10 and is projected to pass 400 million people by mid-century.
