Two Dungeons & Dragons monsters appear side by side, and one statistic is named: challenge rating or hit points. Tap the monster with the higher number, and the streak continues until you are wrong.
The two statistics pull apart. A beholder's challenge rating is far above a hill giant's, but the giant has more hit points. A long run needs the Monster Manual in your head, not only the famous names.
How to play
Two cards are dealt. The statistic for the monster on the left is already on screen, and the card on the right names the statistic in play.
Tap the monster you think has the higher number for that statistic.
A correct tap reveals the number, moves the challenger to the left, and deals the next monster, often with the other statistic.
A wrong tap ends the run. Your score is the streak you reached.
Your best streak is in the top bar. A new record is saved and counts on the leaderboard.
Go through all 322 monsters without a miss and you complete the chain, at a streak of 321.
What counts in this quiz
The deck holds 322 monsters: the famous and well-known monsters of the SRD 5.1, plus the famous monsters outside it, such as the beholder, the mind flayer, Demogorgon and Tiamat.
Challenge rating is the printed rating, from 0 to 30. A fraction shows as a fraction: CR 1/4, CR 1/2.
Hit points are the average hit points of the stat block.
Each card shows a picture of the monster and, under its name, the monster's size, creature type and alignment.
Two monsters are never compared on a challenge rating gap smaller than one full point, and never on a hit point gap under 10%. In a genuine tie, either answer counts as correct.

What's not included, and why
The pictures are our own illustrations, made with an AI image model from each monster's name, size and type. The deck shows no Wizards of the Coast art.
Ordinary animals below challenge rating 1/4 are not in the deck. A cat against a lich is not a question.
The 2024 Monster Manual changed some challenge ratings and hit points. This quiz reads the 2014 numbers of the SRD 5.1.
Good to know
The tarrasque and Tiamat share the top challenge rating, 30. Only the tarrasque has more hit points: 676 against 615.
A hill giant, at challenge rating 5, has 105 hit points. A mind flayer, at challenge rating 7, has 71.
The kraken has 472 hit points, the most of any monster below challenge rating 24.
