Steam Peak Players

This quiz shows two Steam games side by side. You tap the game with the higher all-time peak player count.

The all-time peak is the largest number of people who played the game on Steam at the same moment. It is the one Steam number that never goes down. The deck holds 107 games, from Black Myth: Wukong's 2.4 million concurrent players down to 15 thousand, and a run ends on the first wrong tap.

How to play

• Two games are shown. The peak player count for the game on the left is already on screen.
• Tap the game you think has the higher all-time peak.
• A correct tap shows the number, moves the challenger to the left, and deals the next game. Your streak goes up by one.
• A wrong tap ends the run. Your score is the streak you reached.
• Your best streak is in the top bar. A new record is saved and counts on the leaderboard.
• Go through all 107 games without a miss and you complete the chain, at a streak of 106.

What counts in this quiz

• 107 well-known Steam games from 2006 to 2025: shooters, RPGs, survival games, MMOs, co-op horror, fighting games and strategy.
• The number is the game's all-time peak of concurrent players on Steam, as recorded by public trackers. It is exact where the record is well documented and rounded to the nearest thousand where reports vary. The figures are a snapshot from August 2026.
• Counter-Strike 2 counts as one game with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. They share one Steam app, so the record — 1.8 million in March 2023 — belongs to both.
• Two games are never compared when their peaks are close. The quiz needs a gap of at least 5%, so no question is a coin flip.

What's not included — and why

• Players outside Steam are not counted. Final Fantasy XIV and Destiny 2 have most of their players on other launchers, so their Steam peaks look small.
• Games that are not sold on Steam are not in the deck. There is no Fortnite, League of Legends or Minecraft card.
• The quiz does not use today's player counts. Only the all-time record counts, so an old game with a dead server can still beat a new hit.

Good to know

• PUBG holds the all-time Steam record: 3,257,248 concurrent players in January 2018. Its wordmark has no free version, so PUBG is not in the deck.
• Black Myth: Wukong reached 2.4 million players on its launch day in August 2024 — the highest peak of any single-player game.
• Overwatch 2 peaked at just 75,608 on Steam. The game arrived on Steam a year after launch, and most of its players stayed on Battle.net.
• Game art is copyrighted, so each card shows the game's wordmark from a free Wikimedia Commons version. A game with no free wordmark is not in the deck.
