Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald added 135 Pokémon — at the time the biggest expansion the series had seen. This quiz covers all of them, from #0252 Treecko to #0386 Deoxys.
Hoenn is famously self-contained: almost nothing here evolves from or into older Pokémon, so it's a pure test of one era. If you played Gen 3, the starters and the weather trio come back fast — the grind is the deep bench of sea-route fish, twin bug cocoons, and the two-headed psychic fossils.
How to play
Type a Pokémon's name and its card reveals instantly; keep typing to chain answers without pausing.
Hoenn names are punctuation-free, so spelling is the whole game — case and accents are ignored as always.
The count-up timer starts on your first keystroke, and the run autosaves so you can't lose progress to a refresh.
Hidden-sprite mode (Who's That Pokémon?) turns this into a pure recall run of all 135.
Give Up ends the run and lists every Hoenn Pokémon you missed.
What counts in this quiz
All 135 species numbered #0252–#0386, the full Hoenn Pokédex slice.
Both of Wurmple's evolution branches count — Silcoon and Cascoon lead to two separate final forms, all four of them answers.
The Regi trio, the weather trio, the Lati duo, and Mythicals Jirachi and Deoxys all count.
What's not included — and why
Deoxys is one answer at #0386 — its Normal, Attack, Defense, and Speed formes never count separately.
Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre are transformations, not species — the base names cover them.
Mega Blaziken, Mega Gardevoir, and Hoenn's many other Megas (added later in Gen 6) fold into their base species.
Good to know
Wurmple's evolution into Silcoon or Cascoon is decided by a hidden personality value — you can't influence it.
Shedinja appears in your party with an empty Poké Ball when Nincada evolves, and it lives its whole life with exactly 1 HP.
Slaking's base stats matched the legendary Groudon's — the catch is its ability makes it loaf every other turn.
Wailord is 47 feet of Pokémon that somehow weighs less than water — it would float like a balloon.
