Gen 5 Pokémon Quiz (Unova) — Rules & What Counts
Unova is the biggest generation ever made: 156 new Pokémon in Black and White, and this quiz asks for the lot — #0494 Victini through #0649 Genesect.
Black and White made a radical bet: until the credits rolled, you could only encounter brand-new Pokémon — not a single older species. That gave Gen 5 a huge, fully original cast with its own answers to classic roles: Patrat for Rattata, Pidove for Pidgey, three elemental monkeys for good measure. It's the longest single-generation quiz on the site.
How to play
- Type to reveal — every correct name flips its card instantly, and you can answer in any order.
- Spelling is lenient on case and accents, and Unova's names are punctuation-free — but with 156 of them, pace matters.
- The timer starts at your first keystroke and your run autosaves throughout.
- Sprite-hidden mode (Who's That Pokémon?) is the expert version: 156 names from memory alone.
- Give Up ends the quiz and shows the full list of what you missed.
What counts in this quiz
- All 156 species numbered #0494–#0649 — the largest Pokédex expansion in the series.
- Victini counts, and it comes first: the range opens at #0494, before the starters.
- The Tao trio, the Swords of Justice, the kami trio, and Mythicals Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect all count.
What's not included — and why
- Basculin's red and blue stripes, Darmanitan's Zen Mode, and Meloetta's two formes are single answers — forms never split a Pokédex number.
- Black Kyurem and White Kyurem are fusions, not species — "Kyurem" covers all of it.
Good to know
- Unova is modeled on New York City — Castelia City is Lower Manhattan, and Skyarrow Bridge is the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Gen 5 is the only generation that doesn't open with a Grass starter: Mythical Victini takes slot #0494 ahead of Snivy.
- Zoroark was the first Gen 5 Pokémon ever revealed, months before Black and White were even announced.
