Each round shows four pictures of Dungeons & Dragons monsters. The question names one of them, for example "Which one is the Owlbear?". You tap the picture of that monster.
The pictures are TRIVI.GG's own illustrations, drawn for the Higher or Lower deck. None of them is official Wizards of the Coast art, so a monster can look different from the Monster Manual.
How to play
Each round shows four pictures. The question names one monster.
Tap the picture of that monster. You get one pick for each round.
After your pick, the quiz shows the name of each monster in the round.
You start with three lives. The hearts above the question show the lives that you have.
A correct answer gives one point. A wrong answer costs one life and gives no points.
The run ends when you lose the third life. It also ends after the last round of the run.
Select "Review rounds" on the result screen to see each round that you played.
What counts in this quiz
The list holds 228 monsters: the Higher or Lower deck, minus the monsters a picture cannot tell apart.
One run asks for 50 monsters from the list, in a new order. Two runs ask for different monsters.
The other three pictures in a round come from the same list. They change every run.
A true dragon is one card per colour, shown as its adult form. "Red Dragon" stands for all four ages.
Names are the names of the 2014 Monster Manual. The githyanki card is the Githyanki Warrior.
Your score is the number of correct answers. The maximum score is 50.
The timer counts up from your first pick. It only separates equal scores on the leaderboard.
The monster and spell data come from the System Reference Document 5.1 by Wizards of the Coast LLC, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. The numbers are the 2014 rules.
What's not included, and why
Monsters that a picture cannot tell apart are not in the list: the specter next to the ghost, the ghast next to the ghoul, the mummy lord next to the mummy, three of the five modrons, two of the three blights, and the ordinary animal next to its giant form.
Named characters are not in the list: Strahd, Vecna, Tiamat, Demogorgon, Orcus and Acererak.
The people of the Monster Manual's appendix (mage, priest, knight, cultist, veteran) are not in the list. A picture of a mage looks like a picture of an archmage.
A monster without a picture is not in the list. The list grows when a picture is drawn.
Good to know
Each picture comes from one line of text: the monster's name, its size and its creature type. The image model never saw the Monster Manual.
The owlbear, the rust monster and the bulette began as cheap plastic toys. Gary Gygax bought a bag of them in the 1970s and wrote a stat block for each.
The beholder, the mind flayer, the displacer beast and the umber hulk are not in the SRD: Wizards of the Coast keeps those names as its own. Their pictures here are TRIVI.GG's own drawings, made from the name alone.
Dungeons & Dragons is a trademark of Wizards of the Coast. TRIVI.GG is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, and the quizzes show none of its artwork.
